I know, winter in Texas, if we get a winter it doesn’t always hang around long. But that doesn’t mean that a heating tune up and check would not benefit you in some form or fashion. If you have a gas heat system, your main concern is safety. Two main safety issues with a gas system are fire and carbon monoxide. Many times you would not even know you have a problem until it’s too late. Having a tune up and heater check would catch any current issue before it became an irreversible nightmare. Heat pump and electric heat systems are a bit different, but you would still benefit from a service check. Heat pumps reverse the flow of your freon and disperse the heat that is normally expelled outside in the summer into the house. If your system is low on freon then your heating will not be as efficient. With an electric heat system metal coils heat up while the air passes over them. I am sure you know that hot metal has its own safety concerns and even though all these system have self checks, like limit switches and other items to kick the unit off if it is not functioning correctly, it is always a good idea to have a certified, knowledgable, service technician from a company you can trust check things out for you.
