Check your filters regularly…for 1″ filters this means once a month, for a 4″ filter you can get away with checking them every 3-6 months. If they are dirty and you don’t have a service agreement with an HVAC company that comes and changes them for you, change them. A dirty filter prevents air flow through your air conditioning and heating system, causing anything from as little as your system working less efficiently to as big as burning up a compressor, at which point you may be buying a whole new system. Changing your filters when they get dirty is a simple and small to do item, that can help your AC and heating system last and run efficiently.
